The Big Sing for Mini Singers
"Working with the Gillian Dickinson Trust is an absolute pleasure – the trustees are so enthusiastic about the project and really understand the benefits of communal singing" - Katherine Leadbeter
The Big Sing for Mini Singers takes children on a wonderful journey full of singing, dancing and exploration. Specially designed for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, this project is all about discovering the joy of music whilst linking with the curriculum.
The Big Sing for Mini Singers runs for 6 months. To begin with training events for teachers are held at The Sage Gateshead introducing them to The Big Sing for Mini Singers material which is designed to link with the Foundation Stage Curriculum. Teachers are provided with resource materials (including song book and CD) for use during the project.
Teachers then work on the songs with children in their school with support from musicians from The Sage Gateshead. Each school receives at least half a day of additional support in the participating school, working with teachers and pupils providing additional inspiration and direction.
On the morning of The Big Sing for Mini Singers the children arrive at The Sage Gateshead and fill Hall Two. Together they sing the songs they have learned, and have the opportunity to perform pieces devised themselves. In the afternoon another group of children arrives and the session is repeated.
The Gillian Dickinson Trust have generously supported this project for two years allowing more than 1,500 children from across the North to participate.
