Northern Stars – Young Filmmakers' Academy
With thanks to support from the Gillian Dickinson Trust, Northern Stars has continued to grow in scale and ambition over the past 5 years. In early 2012, we launched Northern Stars Production, which sees our young graduates creating moving image content for businesses and organisations. Tyneside Cinema, and everyone who works on the programme is tremendously proud of Northern Stars – what it has achieved and the possibilities that lie ahead.
Northern Stars is highly successful and established programme for young people that has flourished thanks to the imagination and support of the Gillian Dickinson Trust.
Northern Stars Young Filmmakers’ Academy is a unique, practical training programme and is open to any young person aged 15 – 18 living in the North East who demonstrates commitment and talent and is serious about filmmaking. Over 5 intensive months, 17 young people work their socks off – learning about all aspects of film production with a range of film professionals working in the industry today. The programme includes the 5 day Gillian Dickinson Residential Film Camp, which takes place at a different location each year and is where we head into production, emulating as far as possible, a professional film shoot. The Film Camp is always cited as the highlight of the Academy – hard work and great fun! To date 100 young people have benefited from the programme – as well as skills development, our graduates have secured places at university, won awards and gained employment thanks to their experience and the films they have made.
